The people of Ravvika are considered the finest sailors and shrewdest merchants on Erisa. Ravvikans are manufacturers and service providers who sell their goods and services mostly to markets outside of Ravvika. In return they import cargoes of food and raw materials for their own production needs, and a diverse quantity of finished goods from other countries. their large merchant fleet is famous in ports throughout Erisa, for Ravvikan ships carry both their own cargoes and those of traders from every major sea and river port in the known world.

Ravvika's large speculative cargo trade has made this nation wealthy. This successful mercantile combine is composed of highly stratified guilds which have carefully defined fields of endeavor and do not compete amongst themselves. Ravvikans manufacture a significant portion of the nonbulky, high quality trade goods that travel by sea, but they are best known as the primary source of sea-going carriers on the seas of Erisa. Even the seafaring merchants of large empires frequently opt to contract shipping to these traders. Ravvikan merchants have a reputation for reliability, sharp but honest dealing, and speedy transit times. Not least of all, the trader-captains who are masters of Ravvikas ships are able to defend their vessels against the monsters of the sea, both human and non-human, better than anyone who is not sailing a vessel of war. Ravvikan traders either sell their cargoes or trade them for other goods, depending on their needs or the needs of the client for whom they are shipping. If the price is right, they can acquire any cargo or sell any goods for which there is demand.
Ravvikan merchants are experienced financiers who carry letters of credit, conduct business on account through their agents in a port, and are knowledgeable about the value of cash and trade goods in the places they transact business. These traders generally accept any gold piece or item of equivalent value when transacting business, although a service charge is levied if the currency is not local or if an item will be difficult to convert to cash.
military- only a small land based military force is maintained mostly mercenary units. Their primary mission is to patrol the land and man the border keeps, in addition most of the aristocracy maintains their own personal security forces that can be impressed into service in times of need. Ravvika has a large, well-equipped naval fleet. As well as a seasoned corps of Marines. The merchant fleets of Ravvika supplement the navy in time of war and are well trained in naval combat and is more than able to defend itself against any attackers.

Slavery is accepted and about 10% of the population is in servitude. Most of the remainder of the lower class is free peasantry with small land holdings, or employed in the nations large trading, fishing or shipping industries. There is an average middle class and an upper class of mercantile aristocrats who own most of the wealth and control the nation.
The population is mostly human and is concentrated in the coastal urban areas, there are several agricultural towns that are populated by hobbits. And a large clan of dwarves in the mountains.
history
observations-

"We're the riggers of the world mate, we connect Abbashan with Glyffa, we sail from Magrehb to the Border Kingdoms. Throughout the world the ships of Ravvika have touched all shores! Nowhere will you find better sailors We're weaned on salt water and climb the riggings before we can walk. At business were sharp as a sail razor, in a fight were as terrible as a storm, Ya got a cargo to haul, boss? Come aboard, let's talk"
Ravvikan Merchant Captain, in Port Kar

"Ravvikans? Well if you want safe transport for your goods they're probably your best bet.
Not much else I can tell you about them. They never seem to be around long enough. They ship in stay a few days then ship out. They spend most of their time in the saloons and brothels outside of the occasional brawl we don't hear too much from them."
nightwatch corporal, in Kerendas

"Damned amoral mercenaries that's what they are! If theres profit to be made they'll be there all right - for a steep price! When the nations of the alliance came to the aid of Sellonar in the war against the Drow, Rivvika declared neutrality. They would not land any troops. and they charged inflated prices to ship goods to the refugee effort. Some even say that they purchased captured women and children from the Drow of the Thorns and shipped them to Maghreb and Demornte as slaves".
